Many companies do not have the resources to provide 24-hour surveillance of their entire

property. This leaves the company more prone to burglaries and other crimes. One way to

provide security of a property or asset without a dedicated human security guard is with a robot.

The security robot discussed here is designed to provide security cheaply, reliably, and effectively

in either an indoor or outdoor environment.

This robot operates mainly over the internet. It contains an on board internet server that

connects via Wi-Fi to a local router. Through the router, anyone with an internet connection can

operate the robot and monitor the property it is patrolling. The robot can act entirely

autonomously. Sonar is used to avoid objects and potential dangers on the property. As the

robot is patrolling on its own, if it senses a human presence, an alarm is triggered to the control

terminal over the internet. The human operator on the other end can then decide if law

enforcement needs to be called. In this manner, dozens of properties can be monitored by a

single human operator from thousands of miles away.

Cost savings to the company is the main motivation behind installing one of

these systems. Although, a security robot would be beneficial to the individual consumer as well.

Anywhere there is a need to secure or monitor a remote asset, this system could be used.

Through the wireless connection and on board sensors, a large number of asset types can be

    secured with minimal cost.
